21-ECCLESIASTES
21-1:4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
21-2:14 The
wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived
also that one event happeneth to them all.
21-2:26 For
God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and
knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.
21-3:12 I
know that there is no good in them, but for a man to
rejoice, and to do good in his life.
21-4:1 So
I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and
behold the tears of such as were oppressed,
and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.
21-4:10 For
if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but
woe to him that is alone when he
falleth; for he hath not another to
help him up.
21-4:11 Again,
if two lie together, then they have heat: but
how can one be warm alone?
21-5:7 For
in the multitude of dreams and many words there
are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.
21-5:12 The
sleep of a labouring man is sweet,
whether he eat little or much: but the abundance
of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
21-5:14 But those riches perish by evil travail: and he
begetteth a son, and there is nothing
in his hand.
21-6:2 A
man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth
nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to
eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
21-7:4 The
heart of the wise is in the house of
mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
21-7:12 For
wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of
knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life
to them that have it.
21-7:14 In
the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day
of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the
end that man should find nothing after him.
21-7:23 All
this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but
it was far from me.
21-7:26 And
I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her
hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God
shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be
taken by her.
21-7:28 Which
yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man
among a thousand have I found; but a woman among
all those have I not found.
21-7:29 Lo,
this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
21-8:13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither
shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he
feareth not before God.
21-9:5 For
the living know that they shall die: but the
dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of
them is forgotten.
21-9:11 I
returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet
bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to
men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to
them all.
21-9:18 Wisdom
is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
21-10:2 A
wise man’s heart is at his right
hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
21-10:10 If
the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more
strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
21-10:12 The
words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious;
but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
21-10:19 A
feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but
money answereth all things.
21-11:8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness;
for they shall be many. All that cometh is
vanity.
21-11:9 Rejoice,
O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy
youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know
thou, that for all these things God
will bring thee into judgment.
22-SONG
OF
SOLOMON
22-1:5 I
am black, but
comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of
Solomon.
22-1:6 Look
not upon me, because I am black,
because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me;
they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.
22-3:1 By
night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
22-3:2 I
will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I
will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but
I found him not.
22-3:4 It was but
a little that I passed from them, but I found
him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had
brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived
me.
22-5:2 I
sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for
my head is filled with dew, and my
locks with the drops of the night.
22-5:6 I
opened to my beloved; but my beloved had
withdrawn himself, and was gone: my
soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I
could not find him; I called him, but he gave me
no answer.
22-6:9 My
dove, my undefiled is but one; she is
the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and
they praised her.
23-ISAIAH
23-1:3 The
ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people
doth not consider.
23-1:6 From
the sole of the foot even unto the head there
is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores:
they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
23-1:20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with
the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
23-1:21 How
is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness
lodged in it; but now murderers.
23-5:6 And
I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also
command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
23-5:7 For
the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the
house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for
judgment, but behold oppression; for
righteousness, but behold a cry.
23-5:12 And
the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither
consider the operation of his hands.
23-5:16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment,
and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
23-5:25 Therefore
is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched
forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble,
and their carcases were torn in the
midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched
out still.
23-6:9 And
he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but
understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive
not.
23-6:13 But yet in it shall
be a tenth, and it shall return,
and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
23-7:1 And
it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king
of Judah, that Rezin the king of
Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem
to war against it, but could not prevail against
it.
23-7:12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt
the LORD.
23-7:13 And
he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is
it a small thing for you to weary men, but
will ye weary my God also?
23-7:25 And
on all hills that shall be digged
with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for
the treading of lesser cattle.
23-8:14 And
he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling
and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a
snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
23-9:5 For
every battle of the warrior is with
confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but
this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
23-9:10 The
bricks are fallen down, but we will build with
hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we
will change them into cedars.
23-9:12 The
Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open
mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but
his hand is stretched out still.
23-9:17 Therefore
the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on
their fatherless and widows: for every one is
an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this
his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
23-9:21 Manasseh,
Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they
together shall be against Judah. For
all this his anger is not turned away, but his
hand is stretched out still.
23-10:4 Without
me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the
slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but
his hand is stretched out still.
23-10:7 Howbeit
he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but
it is in his heart to destroy and cut
off nations not a few.
23-10:20 And
it shall come to pass in that day, that the
remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more
again stay upon him that smote them; but shall
stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
23-11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and
reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth
with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the
wicked.
23-11:14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the
Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they
shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey
them.
23-13:21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and
their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there,
and satyrs shall dance there.
23-14:19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable
branch, and as the raiment of those
that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the
pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
23-16:6 We
have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very
proud: even of his haughtiness, and
his pride, and his wrath: but his lies shall
not be so.
23-16:12 And
it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place,
that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but
he shall not prevail.
23-16:14 But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three
years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned,
with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.
23-17:11 In
the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make
thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
23-17:13 The
nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but
God shall rebuke them, and they shall
flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the
wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
23-22:11 Ye
made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither
had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.
23-24:16 From
the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I
said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt
treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
23-26:11 LORD,
when thy hand is lifted up, they will
not see: but
they shall see, and be ashamed for their
envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.
23-26:13 O
LORD our God, other lords beside thee
have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
23-28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through
strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through
strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through
strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
23-28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon
precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go,
and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
23-28:27 For
the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart
wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the
fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.
23-29:8 It
shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth,
and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his
soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of
all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.
23-29:9 Stay
yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.
23-29:13 Wherefore
the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear
toward me is taught by the precept of men:
23-29:23 But when he seeth his children, the work of mine
hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy
One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.
23-30:1 Woe
to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
23-30:5 They
were all ashamed of a people that could
not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a
shame, and also a reproach.
23-30:16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses;
therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they
that pursue you be swift.
23-30:20 And
though the Lord give you the bread of
adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed
into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see
thy teachers:
23-31:1 Woe
to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in
chariots, because they are many; and
in horsemen, because they are very strong; but
they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
23-31:2 Yet
he also is wise, and will bring evil,
and will not call back his words: but will arise
against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work
iniquity.
23-31:8 Then
shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not
of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall
flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.
23-32:8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by
liberal things shall he stand.
23-33:21 But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall
gallant ship pass thereby.
23-34:11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it;
the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it
the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.
23-34:12 They
shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but
none shall be there, and all her
princes shall be nothing.
23-35:8 And
an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of
holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but
it shall be for those: the wayfaring
men, though fools, shall not err therein.
23-35:9 No
lion shall be there, nor any ravenous
beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:
23-36:5 I
say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust,
that thou rebellest against me?
23-36:7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and
whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye
shall worship before this altar?
23-36:12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy
master and to thee to speak these words? hath
he not sent me to the men that
sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss
with you?
23-36:21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a
word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
23-37:19 And
have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands,
wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
23-37:28 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy
coming in, and thy rage against me.
23-38:17 Behold,
for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast
in love to my soul delivered it from
the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
23-40:8 The
grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word
of our God shall stand for ever.
23-40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
23-41:8 But thou, Israel, art
my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.
23-42:19 Who
is blind, but
my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that
I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the
Lord’s servant?
23-42:20 Seeing
many things, but thou observest not; opening the
ears, but he heareth not.
23-42:22 But this is a
people robbed and spoiled; they are all
of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a
prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
23-43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O
Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I
have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
23-43:22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.
23-43:24 Thou
hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat
of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to
serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
23-45:17 But Israel
shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be
ashamed nor confounded world without end.
23-46:2 They
stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.
23-47:9 But these two things
shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and
widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of
thy sorceries, and for the great
abundance of thine enchantments.
23-48:1 Hear
ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come
forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make
mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
23-48:10 Behold,
I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have
chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
23-49:14 But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord
hath forgotten me.
23-49:25 But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the
mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered:
for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy
children.
23-51:6 Lift
up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens
shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and
they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but
my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
23-51:8 For
the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like
wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever,
and my salvation from generation to generation.
23-51:15 But I am the
LORD thy God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts is his name.
23-51:21 Therefore
hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but
not with wine:
23-51:23 But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict
thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast
laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
23-53:5 But he was wounded
for our transgressions, he was bruised
for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
23-54:7 For
a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with
great mercies will I gather thee.
23-54:8 In
a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but
with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy
Redeemer.
23-54:10 For
the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but
my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace
be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
23-54:15 Behold,
they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together
against thee shall fall for thy sake.
23-55:10 For
as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and
bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
23-55:11 So
shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me
void, but it shall accomplish that which I
please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it.
23-57:3 But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the
seed of the adulterer and the whore.
23-57:13 When
thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but
the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust
in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;
23-57:20 But the wicked are
like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and
dirt.
23-59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and
your God, and your sins have hid his face
from you, that he will not hear.
23-59:9 Therefore
is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we
walk in darkness.
23-59:11 We
roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none;
for salvation, but
it is far off from us.
23-60:2 For,
behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory
shall be seen upon thee.
23-60:10 And
the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister
unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in
my favour have I had mercy on thee.
23-60:18 Violence
shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders;
but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy
gates Praise.
23-60:19 The
sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon
give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto
thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
23-61:6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our
God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast
yourselves.
23-62:4 Thou
shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed
Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah,
and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be
married.
23-62:9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it and praise
the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts
of my holiness.
23-63:10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit:
therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and
he fought against them.
23-63:18 The
people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down
thy sanctuary.
23-64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our
iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
23-64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the
clay, and thou our potter; and we all are
the work of thy hand.
23-65:6 Behold,
it is written before me: I will not
keep silence, but will recompense, even
recompense into their bosom,
23-65:11 But ye are they
that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for
that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.
23-65:12 Therefore
will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:
because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.
23-65:13 Therefore
thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall
rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:
23-65:14 Behold,
my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye
shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
23-65:18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I
create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
23-65:20 There
shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled
his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an
hundred years old shall be accursed.
23-66:2 For
all those things hath mine hand made,
and all those things have been, saith
the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite
spirit, and trembleth at my word.
23-66:4 I
also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because
when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.
23-66:5 Hear
the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated
you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be
